Hello,
My name is Maor. I'm 26 years old, living in Jerusalem.
In my work, I ask questions about physicality and the human body. Presence and weight against disappearance and disintegration; the connection between human and nature, the domesticated facing the wild, and the natural versus the industrial. I seek entities that are not identified as bodies and, conversely, organic objects that can be identified as bodies. I examine the relationship between humans and nature, searching for points of convergence amid opposing spaces.
Another main tension in my work is the one between control and surrender, a process that I also navigate in my personal life. When I am the one navigating the ship, and when I allow it to drift with the current. I see the studio as a playground where both ends can coexist, creating a space of contemplation where I can move back and forth between them.
I explore these themes through a variety of techniques. I enjoy transitioning between different mediums, when the main ones are installations of painting, sculpture, and video. The transitioning between these different mediums allows me the freedom of movement and playfulness, that are very necessary to me in my work.
Meditation is a central tool in my work, as well as in me life. I see painting and creation as a meditative practice—a possibility for connecting to the subconscious and the universe.
I am drawn to the rejected and abandoned objects, collecting leftovers from the street and from my home - dried flowers and leaves, cigarette ashes, soil, used coffee. All these materials are collected and poured into the sculptures, giving them another possibility of life.
